Information flow: the traditional model
Here is how it works today:

Notice how little information is exchanged between the end user and the producer. This pattern—all too common according to our 2005 Distributor Survey—reflects the degree to which end users and producers operate in separate silos. End users figure out what they need largely by themselves. Producers design products for sale to end users with whom they effectively have no dialogue about product usage.
